Stigsborg project – Where urban spaces connect people
The Stigsborg Project is a new waterfront neighbourhood by the Limfjord in Denmark, created with a focus on community, movement and everyday life.
The area is where the waterfront, green surroundings, architecture and urban life come together. Outdoor spaces are an important part of everyday life, and throughout the neighbourhood, Amager Chair, Plateau Picnic and Plateau Seat have been integrated into the urban landscape.
A neighbourhood survey involving 795 residents and citizens provides an interesting insight into what people actually value about the area.
Among Stigsborg’s most highly rated qualities are its proximity to the Limfjord, opportunities for walking and cycling, the green surroundings, and the design of its outdoor spaces and streets.
49% specifically identify the design of outdoor spaces and streets as one of Stigsborg’s greatest qualities.
It highlights something fundamental about urban design: the spaces between buildings play an important role in how a place is experienced.

Three designs – different ways to stay
At Stigsborg, Amager Chair, Plateau Seat and Plateau Picnic are part of the urban landscape.
Each design has a different role in the outdoor space. Amager Chair and Plateau Seat offer places to sit and take a break, while Plateau Picnic creates a natural place to meet, eat or spend time together.
Together, they add places to sit, meet and stay throughout the neighbourhood – and become a natural part of everyday life at Stigsborg.

From urban furniture to places for people
A successful public space is never created by a single element.
It emerges through the interaction between landscape, architecture, nature, movement and the opportunities a place provides for people to stay, meet and connect.
That is why we see Stigsborg as more than a traditional product reference.
It is an example of how our designs can become part of a greater whole and help create the setting for small, everyday moments: taking a break on the way home, having lunch outside, enjoying the surroundings or simply meeting someone unexpectedly.
That’s what we mean by rethink urban space.
